Last night (Monday 29th September) Rochester High Street was closed due to unconfirmed reports of a suspicious package or wartime bomb found near Corporation Street and the A2 Rochester Bridge.
A police cordon was in place on Rochester High Street from Northgate to the Esplanade, from around 6.30pm, with the roads closed to pedestrians and vehicles.
A bomb disposal unit was seen at the scene, which left at around 8.20pm, with the high street cordon being lifted shortly after.
A police spokesperson said the force was called to a “suspicious item at a residential property near Corporation Street”.
“Officers attended and placed a cordon near the scene while a Ministry of Defence bomb disposal team attended as a precaution. The item was found not to pose a risk to the general public and the cordon was removed at around 8.15pm.”
