Southern Water Dumps Sewage Onto Protest Beaches

Southern Water Dumps Sewage Onto Protest Beaches

A planned protest against water companies dumping sewage into the sea was postponed last weekend due to poor weather conditions brought by Storm Amy.

The protest, dubbed “Flood the Streets” was planned for Saturday 4th October at 3pm in Whitstable, with the hope for thousands to take to Whitstable streets as protest planned against Southern Water.

The group behind the protest, “SOS Whitstable” said “we’ve reluctantly decided to postpone tomorrow’s protest. However, it’s a postponement and not a cancellation. New date TBC.”

But in an ironic twist, Southern Water then dumped tonnes of sewage onto the same Kent beaches where protest was due to take place, which would have made it a very smelly protest. Whether the dumping was deliberate or just linked to Storm Amy is anyone’s guess, but it does highlight the ongoing damage being done to our coastlines.

Back in July, the annual Boxing Day swim in Deal was already looking to be under threat for the second year in a row, running due to high E.coli levels. This is a charity event that raises thousands of pounds, but appears to be blighted once more due to a private company.
