Police Tackling Illegal Activities By Delivery Drivers

Kent Police have successfully conducted a fourth road traffic policing operation in Thanet aimed at tackling illegal activities by delivery drivers.

The operation targeted delivery drivers operating without proper documentation, insurance, or licences. On Friday 26th September 2025 officers were stationed at Westwood Cross in Broadstairs in marked and unmarked vehicles. Through proactive stop checks, officers stopped a total of 45 vehicles and uncovered a range of offences:

  • Fourteen traffic tickets issued for offences including mobile phone usage, illegal parking, illegal window tints, and for an illegal numberplate.
  • Three vehicles seized in relation to licence offences including two cars and one moped.
  • Six e-scooters and one e-bike seized for illegal usage and power outputs over the prescribed limit.
  • Three searches conducted under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
  • Two arrests made including a man in his 50s who was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, and an 18 year old man who was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

Sergeant Jim Woodward said ‘This operation is part of our ongoing commitment to keeping Thanet’s roads safe and ensuring delivery drivers are operating legally and responsibly. By taking direct action and removing illegal vehicles from the road, we are ensuring the safety of road users and the public alike.’

Kent residents would like to see more proactive operations like this across the county to cut down on the number of illegal delivery drivers and dangerous vehicles.
