A lady aged 82 has been hounded by Dover District Council to repaint her house after they said the colour blue she chose was “visually unsympathetic” to the preservation area that she lives in.
Mary Kenny from Dover, painted her house cobalt blue 3 years ago and now Dover Council are demanding £3,000 for it to be repainted cream or white. This is despite the fact that other houses in the road are painted, yellow, mushroom grey and even the local pub is painted blue, without any objection. Colourful homes are a feature of the Deal and Dover streets.
She asked for a face-to-face meeting with the council but they declined and have refused to meet her at her property.
With health problems, Mary has said that the two year saga is causing her unnecessary stress. She said that most problems can be resolved with good communication in the beginning.
Mary is hoping to get an appeal hearing where she can defend her position, but said that if that fails, she will have to back down and pay the money to get the house repainted to lighter colour.
