A combined custodial sentence of almost 19 years has been imposed on a group of burglars who targeted a residential address in Hawkinge, Folkestone.
Callum Elliot, 23 and Darren Butler, 36, admitted to aggravated burglary after breaking into the property wearing balaclavas and boiler suits, and brandishing machetes.
William Webb, 34, was convicted for his involvement after plotting to carry out the crime, in a unanimous jury verdict.
The convictions go back to an incident when the police were called to Corbett Road at 10.18pm on Sunday 3rd November 2024.
The victims, who were at home at the time, had been alerted to a loud noise and, upon investigating, came face to face with the masked offenders who had forced their way inside.
The burglars threatened the residents with their weapons and demanded items, including watches and clocks, were handed over to them. They then fled the scene.
Officers attended and initial enquiries established that the burglars had left in a white Audi.
Further enquiries were completed, which included reviewing CCTV and obtaining witness statements from those in the area at the time.
Butler and Elliot were promptly detained on 4th and 5th November respectively. They were each charged two days after their arrests. Butler, formerly of Ash Terrace, Seaham in Durham, and Elliot, formerly of Harbour Way, Folkestone, pleaded guilty before Canterbury Crown Court and were sentenced on Friday 24th April 2026.
Butler was jailed for eight years and seven months. Elliot was sentenced to seven years and two months’ imprisonment.
Webb was found guilty of conspiracy to commit burglary following a trial. He was jailed at the same court for three years and two months.
